Baytril® 100 (enrofloxacin) Approved by FDA for Swine

Antibiotic now available for treatment and control of swine respiratory disease

When a proven winner joins an already great team, the results are phenomenal. So Bayer Animal Health is proud to offer Baytril® 100 (enrofloxacin) Injectable Solution for treatment and control of swine respiratory disease (SRD) in all phases of production.

Baytril 100 Kills Four Key Pathogens.

Left untreated, respiratory disease impedes growth and increases morbidity, impacting your bottom line. Baytril 100 quickly kills four key pathogens that cause respiratory disease:

  • Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
  • Pasteurella multocida
  • Haemophilus parasuis
  • Streptococcus suis

Baytril 100 works fast and starts killing bacteria within a matter of minutes. 1 Furthermore, Baytril 100 is concentration-dependent, not time-dependent, delivering peak therapeutic drug concentrations via a single, subcutaneous injection behind the ear.

A New Level of Performance in the Pork Industry.

Baytril 100 is a fluoroquinolone: a class of antibiotics new to the swine industry. Although the name might be new to pork producers and swine veterinarians, Baytril has been a trusted favorite of companion animal and bovine veterinarians for decades. That’s because Baytril is different from other antibiotics:

  • Many antibiotics are bacteriostatic: they don’t kill the bacteria, they only suppress it.
  • Baytril 100 is bactericidal. Its unique mode of action allows it to penetrate the bacterial cell wall, disrupt the DNA and kill respiratory disease-causing bacteria fast.
  • Baytril 100 kills bacteria in both the resting and growth phases of development.
  • Unlike feed- or water-based respiratory disease products, Baytril 100, an injectable product, ensures the infected animals get proper dosage.

Unlike slower antibiotics that require days to achieve therapeutic results, Baytril 100 goes directly to the site of infection and starts killing respiratory disease-causing bacteria in minutes, not days. And Baytril 100 does it with a single dose.

For use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Extra-label use of this drug in food-producing animals is prohibited. Swine intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within 5 days of receiving a single injection dose.
