Description

Profender® (emodepside + praziquantel) Topical Solution for Cats is an easy-to-apply, single-dose, prescription-only dewormer offering broad-spectrum coverage. It utilizes a unique combination of active ingredients not found in any other dewormer for single-dose efficacy, eliminating the need for repeat dosing or follow-up treatment visits for clients and their cats.*

Profender® can safely be used on cats and kittens as young as 8 weeks of age and weighing at least 2.2 lbs. It treats and controls:

  • Tapeworms Dipylidium caninum and Taenia taeniaeformis
  • Roundworm Toxocara cati
  • Hookworm Ancylostoma tubaeforme

In addition to treating adults, Profender® also targets immature stages of roundworms and hookworms for broad and deep coverage:

  • Immature adults: A. tubaeforme
  • L4 larvae: T. cati, A. tubaeforme

*Reinfection due to exposure may require repeat dosing. Profender® can be re-applied after 30 days.

Do not apply to broken skin or if hair coat is wet. Do not get this product in the cat’s mouth or eyes or allow the cat to lick the application site for one hour. Oral exposure can cause salivation and vomiting. Treatment at the base of the head will minimize the opportunity for ingestion while grooming. In households with multiple pets, recommend clients keep animals separated to prevent licking of the application site.

Stiff hair, a damp appearance of the hair or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the treatment site. These effects are temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.

CAUTION: Federal law (U.S.A.) restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

WARNING: Children should not come into contact with the application site for 24 hours.

PRECAUTION: Use with caution in sick or debilitated cats. Use with caution in heartworm-positive cats. The cats enrolled in the field study were antigen- and antibody-negative prior to entering the study. In a laboratory study, cats artificially infected with adult heartworms and treated with Profender® Topical Solution had fewer worms recovered than the placebo control group.

How many treatments of Profender® for cats are needed to treat intestinal worms?

After applying a single dose of Profender®, the worms will be expelled through the cat’s feces. A second treatment should not be necessary. As with any dewormer, reinfection is always possible. If re-infection occurs, the product can be applied again after 30 days.

How often can Profender® for cats be applied?

Profender® for cats can be applied once every 30 days if needed. One dose will kill and remove adult tapeworms as well as adult and immature stages of roundworms and hookworms. Due to a cat’s behavior and environment (going outdoors, hunting, exposure to fleas, etc.), reinfection is always a possibility, in which case re-treatment with Profender® may be necessary.

Does Profender® for cats need to be applied in clinic?

Profender® for cats can be applied in a veterinary office or at home by clients after attaining a prescription and purchasing the product at a clinic or online pharmacy. Its easy-to-apply topical application was developed for compliance and means no more pills, painful injections or messy pastes for you or your clients.
